Miguel Rivas Venegas
Miguel Rivas Venegas is a María Zambrano Distinguished Researcher and a member of the MEDUSA research group at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. His research focuses on national identities, conflicted memories, monstrous narratives, and contemporary and historical masculinities.
Miguel Rivas Venegas is a María Zambrano Distinguished Researcher for the 2022-2024 programme and a member of the consolidated research group MEDUSA: Masculinities, Affects and Bodies at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Previously, he was a Juan de la Cierva researcher at the University of the Basque Country between 2020 and 2022 and a postdoctoral fellow at Freie Universität Berlin.
His current work at MEDUSA focuses on the study of national identities, cultural rituals of expulsion, monstrous narratives, conflicted memories, and contemporary and historical masculinities.
He has been a member of the International Cluster of Excellence Temporal Communities at Freie Universität Berlin since its foundation in 2019. He is also a researcher in the Arts of Memory team at Freie Universität Berlin and in Erinnerungskulturen und Politiken at Technische Universität Berlin. He is part of the group of specialists in historical memory and iconography led by Francisco Ferrándiz, from the CSIC and the Spanish State Secretariat for Democratic Memory.
He is the author, among other works, of Lo viril y lo viscoso: alteridades, fantasmas y héroes en el primer franquismo, published by Cátedra, and the author and editor of Marginality and Resistencia, published by De Gruyter in 2024, and Memorias en jaque, published by Trea in 2023. He has also published articles in journals such as Revista de Investigaciones Feministas and Revista de Literatura of the CSIC.
