Libora Oates-Indruchová

She studied literary and cultural theory and obtained her PhD in English from Lancaster University, U.K. She subsequently completed her habilitation (Dr. habil.) in Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Szeged, Hungary. She also studied Gender Studies in a non-degree postgraduate programme at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, and holds an undergraduate degree (Magistra) in Sports Studies and English from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.

Her research focuses primarily on cultural issues related to late state-socialist Czechoslovakia. Her work has been published, among others, in Signs, Slavic Review, Europe-Asia Studies, Men & Masculinities, Aspasia, and Sociologický časopis.

Before joining the University of Graz, she directed the PhD programme in Sociology at Palacký University in Olomouc and led the research field “Communist and Postcommunist Times in Central Europe” at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for European History and Public Spheres in Vienna, Austria.

She has taught at Charles University, the University of Pardubice, Masaryk University, and the University of Szeged, and has held research fellowships and scholarships at the Aleksanteri Institute, University of Helsinki; the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh (Andrew Mellon Fellowship); Collegium Budapest/Institute for Advanced Study; and Central European University in Budapest.

Her research has received funding from, among others, the European Commission (Marie Curie Fellowship), the Czech Science Foundation, Collegium Budapest Institute for Advanced Study, the Andrew Mellon Foundation, the Open Society Foundation, and the British Council.
