Cristina Pereira Vieira

Cristina Pereira Vieira holds a PhD in Sociology.

She teaches at Universidade Aberta (Open University of Portugal) across different academic levels —undergraduate, postgraduate, master’s, and PhD— where she has introduced new areas of study and new curricular units focusing on sexuality, youth, and gender, developing topics that had not previously been addressed.

She is a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (CIEG). Her research focuses on sexuality and gender, among other areas, with particular emphasis on young people’s experiences of sexuality; masculinities through models and dynamics of relationships; bodies and seduction; and gender equality and gender-based violence through the study of discriminatory practices, particularly homophobic bullying, in young people’s everyday relationships.

In this field, she has authored numerous publications and presented papers at national and international conferences. She is also the author of *Eu faço sexo amoroso – A sexualidade dos Jovens pela voz dos Próprios* (Editorial Bizâncio, 2012), the result of her research and regarded as a pioneering work in Portugal in the field of youth sexualities. The book explores young people’s sexual experiences through their own accounts, providing a direct approach to their lived realities.
